representative programmeWaikato Bay of Plenty Football organises an internal representative programme for each of the six junior management committees (JMC’s) that lie within the federation’s boundaries. Through a co-ordinated talent identification network players are identified and monitored as they enter the programme at the U8 level (born in 2000). This enables Waikato Bay of Plenty Football and the JMC’s to track the more accomplished club player from each region, providing them with a development pathway to the Federation High Performance Programme and beyond. Although the programming of each JMC varies from area to area, the majority of JMC’s conduct their representative programmes in two phases. Phases one is a technical phase where high tempo games for understanding are used to develop players dynamic techniques and skills. Through organised tournaments for U8’s – U12’s and a league for U13’s – U15’s competition is introduced in phase two. In this phase the establishment of specific player and team goals are used to develop performance outcomes. Equal playing time is encouraged, as is the development of a player’s game awareness through exposure to a number of positions. Both phases utilize the player centred approach where the development of the individual is the key aspect. The aim of this is to ensure that all players develop a training culture that is driven internally so that they will remain motivated to succeed.
In 2008 Waikato Bay of Plenty Football aim to introduce U10 (born in 2000, 1999 and 1998) female specific representative tournaments, as a result the following age groups will be included in this year’s representative programme
