high performance programmeThe purpose of the High Performance Programme is to improve Waikato Bay of Plenty’s status on the New Zealand Football stage and to channel the very best of our players to the best level. Selection Process
The following steps will be used to identify and select players for the Waikato Bay of Plenty Football High Performance programme.
· Prior to the commencement of the representative competition phase, Junior Management Committee Directors of Coaching and or the federations football development officers will be requested to submit nominations for players who should be considered for acceptance into the High Performance programme.
· Nominated players will be carefully assessed for their level of development and ability, through a process of watching them in representative programme fixtures and by discussion with their representative coach and areas director of coaching.
· Selected players will be invited to attend trial on October 11th, 12th, 18th and 19th. While each age groups head coach has the final say on all squad selections, the trail process will involve a selection panel that also includes the squad’s assistant coach, Development Officers, Peter Smith and Matt Friel and regional coach development coordinator Marc Thomas.
Please note that we reserve the right to invite players not involved in the representative programme to the trials.
Programming
Operating from October 20th until March 29th, with a four week Christmas break, the high performance programme involves weekly training sessions and games against other federations. Specialist goalkeeper training is provided for all goalkeepers, while a comprehensive sports science programme will ensure that our young players develop an ethos and attitude towards exercise science that allows them to grow and mature into well rounded team athletes. The age groups involved in this programme will be confirmed once New Zealand Football has established what age groups will be involved in the National Tournaments.
Squads will be selected from the High Performance Programme to attend federation tournaments such as the New Zealand Football National tournament and the Weir Rose Bowl. For more information on these tournaments please click here.
