Deer Improvement expects that its clients will access the highest venison BV genetics available anywhere in the world. This is because of two key reasons.
Deer Improvement makes full use of technology and scientific expertise and operates an intensive embryo transfer programme on a scale that far exceeds any other. Our breeding goal is focussed specifically on venison productivity with no selection emphasis on antlers.
Deer Improvement clients will directly access genes from its very best sires whereas traditional studs must keep their best and sell only the second tier and below
The Deer Improvement genetic programme is run by Jake Chardon, an internationally acclaimed animal geneticist. Previously Chief Executive of Dutch dairy herd improvement giant, Holland Genetics, he moved to New Zealand in 2001 and is contracted to LIC. Jake now applies his skills to deer and takes primary responsibility for driving genetic gain in Deer Improvement’s nucleus herd.
